Today was the memorial service for Coach Joe Paterno, the coach that guided the Nittany Lions to over 400 victories over the course of a life time, the coach that made an impact on a university and millions of lives. I am a Penn Stater who will forever miss Joe. He gave me my favorite place to study while in college — the Paterno Library. He showed me how to love a university I was once skeptical to attend. I can’t imagine what my first trip back up to Happy Valley will be like, knowing that when I go to another football game I won’t be seeing Penn State’s legendary coach make his way on to the football field in his khakis, white socks and black nike shoes.
Honestly, I could go on and on about Joe. But I simply just have to say that today’s memorial will never be forgotten, and especially the speech made by Phil Knight (the chairman of Nike) and Jay Paterno. I hope Penn Staters around the world were able to hear what past players had to share about their coach.
Joe, you’ll be missed.
